Thailand’s planned digital wallet scheme, which aimed to distribute 10,000 baht ($274) to eligible citizens over 16 years old, has been delayed. The February 2024 launch, previously projected to stimulate economic growth by 5%, has been postponed to buy more time for system development, with the Thai government insisting that its launch will still take place in Q1 2024. The sub-committee overseeing the scheme is currently deliberating over funding sources for the estimated $15 billion project. Former Thai Senator Rosana Tositrakul has questioned its legality and requested an election commission probe into the proposal.
