The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided to delay a proposal for options on Bitcoin spot ETFs until April 4. Two proposals submitted by nine issuers are affected, excluding Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC).
BlackRock and Nasdaq pending green light for bitcoin ETF options
According to documents dated March 6, the SEC announced the postponement of approval, rejection or initiation of a rule change process for an application by Nasdaq to list and trade options on the iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) from BlackRock. The comment period is ongoing, and five people have already submitted their opinions, seeking approval to trade options on the Bitcoin ETF from BlackRock. An April 24 deadline has been set for a decision on the matter.
Cboe is also awaiting approval
At the same time, the SEC deferred a decision on whether to approve or deny from the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) to offer options trading on the spot Bitcoin ETF. That filing was also delayed until April 24. According to regulations, Cboe can list and trade options on any exchange product at least three days after the fund debuts on registered exchanges.
