On 12 October in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the country’s president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the Digital Bridge Summit, which focused on the future of the digital industry. During his speech at the high-profile event, the president announced ambitious plans to build data centres focused on artificial intelligence in his country, Trend reported.

In his speech, President Tokayev stressed that the future development of the digital industry, especially the area of artificial intelligence, is closely linked to advanced IT infrastructure. He therefore directed the government to prioritise efforts to build data centres focused on artificial intelligence in the coming years.

„Advanced IT infrastructure is the basis for the future progress of the digital industry, and in particular artificial intelligence. Therefore, its development should be ahead of the needs of IT developers. I direct the government to ensure that data centres specialising in artificial intelligence are built within two years.”

In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed confidence that the implementation of these ambitious plans would allow Kazakhstan to attract significant international companies such as technology giants Amazon, Google, as well as financial institutions, including Mastercard and Citigroup. He also showed satisfaction with previous meetings with the management of these companies during his recent trip to New York, during which important agreements were reached.

The president also emphasised the key role of data infrastructure in the development of artificial intelligence, claiming that large data sets are the necessary „fuel” driving the development of this technology. At the end of his speech, Tokayev stressed that many of these concepts have already been put into practice, setting the stage for the future for Kazakhstan in the digital revolution.
