Coca-Cola is harnessing the hype around artificial intelligence and creating Y3000 Zero Sugar, a limited edition drink 'powered by artificial intelligence’, that imagines 'what the future tastes and feels like’. The new drink, co-created with AI, combines insights generated by artificial intelligence with „how fans imagine the future through emotions, aspirations, colours, flavours and more”.
The process of creating this unique flavour began with interviews with consumers, who were asked what flavours they associate with the future. This information was then fed back to Coca-Cola’s advanced artificial intelligence system to develop the special fizzy drink flavour.
The drink bears the futuristic name Y3000 Zero Sugar, suggesting that its flavour is derived from the year 3000. In addition, the drink’s marketing campaign uses artificial intelligence-generated visuals from the year 2023, which are created by a model called Stable Diffusion.
Although there is no explicit mention of the role of artificial intelligence in the new flavour, the official statement sheds some light: „The perspectives of fans from around the world, combined with insights gathered from artificial intelligence, helped inspire Coca-Cola to create the unique Y3000 flavour.
This zero sugar beverage looks both futuristic and positive, with branding and imagery with a sleek silver base, highlighted with vibrant stains of purple, magenta, and cyan. The design reflects the idea of a liquid in a constant state of change, which in a way reflects the history of adaptation and evolution of Coca-Cola.
Artificial Intelligence really shines in the creation of the Y3000 Zero Sugar visual identity, which just seems vibrant and fresh. According to a statement from the company, „Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar has an equally futuristic – and optimistic – visual identity. Co-created with artificial intelligence, the design depicts the liquid in an evolving state, communicated through changes in form and colour that highlight a positive future”.
Speaking at the flavour launch, Oana Vlad, senior director of global strategy at The Coca-Cola Company, said: „We hope that Coca-Cola will still be as relevant and refreshing in the year 3000 as it is today, so we challenged ourselves to explore what a cola from the future might taste like – and what experiences would a cola from the future unlock? We deliberately combined human intelligence and artificial intelligence to elevate what Coca-Cola believes tomorrow will bring.”
Vlad then added: „The role of every drop is to use the latest, most advanced technologies and cultural trends to create innovative experiences. Having set our sights on augmented reality last year, we are harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and continuing to build our company’s capabilities in this exciting space. Coca-Cola Creations has created new avenues to deepen our engagement with existing fans and those who may not have previously considered our brand.”
Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar is a limited offer: therefore it will have a short duration and will only be available in the United States, Canada, China, Europe, and Africa. As an added bonus, customers can scan the QR code on the packaging to unlock the Coca-Cola Creations Hub, where they will find a camera the Y3000 AI Cam, ideal for filtering photos and getting a glimpse into the world of the future.
