Seychelles based cryptocurrency exchange and derivatives trading platform, BitMEX has inked a settlement with the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as announced by the firm on Tuesday. The settlement also covers charges levied against the firm by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
The deal comes off as a standalone settlement that absolves only the company as there were no mentions of the firm’s founders and former executives including former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arthur Hayes who were indicted by American authorities.
“We are very glad to put this behind us,” said BitMEX CEO Alexander Höptner. “We take our responsibilities extremely seriously, and will continue to actively engage with regulators around the world to ensure that we play a positive role in helping to shape the future of this extraordinary asset class.”
