The chatbot’s ability to remember is referred to by the company as „Memory” ChatGPT.

ChatGPT has two methods of memory recovery

Firstly, the chatbot can extract information from conversations. For example, if you ask it to write a birthday message for your wife Anna, it will remember that you are Anna’s husband. The chatbot will now address your wife as Anna in the birthday message if you ask it to write such a message for her in the future. Secondly, you can ask the chatbot to remember a specific detail. For example, you can instruct it to remember that you like to read information in bullet points. This way, it will provide you with the information the next time you ask it to explain something.

Remove items from ChatGPT’s memory

You can ask ChatGPT to forget details from the discussion or remove items from the settings page if you no longer want it to remember something you asked it to, or if it has already recorded a specific detail from the chat. You can use the temporary chat to have a conversation without using the memory. Think of this as incognito mode, where the chatbot does not collect any information from the chats. Also, OpenAI does not train its models with conversations from this mode. You can completely disable the ChatGPT storage feature in the settings if you do not want to use it in conversations.

Accessibility and data protection

OpenAI ensures that ChatGPT does not recognise any private information, including medical data. However, if you wish, the chatbot can retrieve this information. The company is currently implementing the shop for a select group of customers. It is unclear when the feature will be available to a wider audience. It is claimed that the ChatGPT Shop will be available to Team, Enterprise and Custom GPT customers once OpenAI begins to expand its capabilities. With this latest addition, OpenAI is raising the bar for GenAI chatbots.
